i have an Alaskan Malamute & live in MI. I'm very attentive to her thick coat and the climate. In this article, there is an example of a Siberian Husky living in south FL with a thick coat could be shaved to accommodate the climate.
This is horrifying advice... the coats on these animals acts as an insulator from both cold & heat. Huskies and Malamutes actually have 2 coats; an short under coat and a longer 2nd coat on top. To shave them would be counter productive to keeping them cool and would actually over heat them! Please, don't recommend that any owner shave their "snow" dog, they need their coat to stay warm and cool.
